Former UFC middleweight contender Nate Marquardt still has designs on dropping to 170 pounds and plans to do so this December under the BAMMA banner. Marquardt had originally been scheduled to test the welterweight waters earlier this year at a UFC event before being pulled due to an abnormal level of testosterone in his system, the result of hormone replacement therapy according to his camp, and subsequently being released by Zuffa based on the infraction.
In what unfortunately seems to be a slow march towards the end of his MMA career, Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto has suffered an undisclosed injury while training for a September 24 fight at UFC 135 against Damacio Page and has been forced to withdraw from the event as a result.
Page also incurred some sort of damage to his neck during his camp meaning a replacement for Yamamoto will not be necessary as neither fighter will be healthy enough to fight in Denver.

After news broke earlier this week relating to the passing of Jack Shields, friend, father, and long-time manager of welterweight Jake Shields, it would have been understandable if the former Strikeforce champ had opted out of a scheduled scrap with Jake Ellenberger on September 17 at the UFC Battle on the Bayou.
“Jack would often make the long drive from his home to watch Jake practice and was always at Jake’s fights. He was part of our team and we will miss him,” read an official statement on the GracieFighter website in regards to his death.

When the Octagon returns to England this November for UFC 138 one of their favorite sons will have a new opponent in place rather than the one he was originally scheduled to face at the event.
With Pascal Krauss out due to injury, John Hathaway will now take on three-year veteran of the UFC Matt Brown as part of the November 5 lineup in hopes of returning to the same form that had fans wondering if he might be on pace to match fellow Brit Michael Bisping’s success.

Former UFC light heavyweight Keith Jardine may be changing his nickname from “The Dean of Mean” to the “Dean of Lean” after announcing his decision to drop to 185 pounds before he steps into the ring this December under the Strikeforce banner.
“I’m pumped,” Jardine wrote on his blog, though added he wasn’t sure who would be lining up opposite from him in the cage. However, the 35-year old did say Mike Dolce – a former fighter who has helped the likes of Quinton Jackson and Thiago Alves with weight-related issues – would be in his corner, at least where diet is concerned.

It was a fitting end for a legend in the sport Saturday night at UFC 115. Chuck Liddell came into his main event fight with Rich Franklin having lost 4 of his last 5 and being knocked out in 3 of them. It was Chuck’s last stand and he left it all in the cage. He came out like the Chuck of old with his hands and feet ready for war and it was late in round 1, with his once rock solid chin gone from years of battles and knockouts scummed to a Franklin right hand that put him down and out.
Many are sad that Liddell with no longer grace the octagon. We will never see the Iceman’s lethal right hand and overpowering punches. We will never see the mo hawked rock star, who was truly the first Read More

It was another exciting and busy weekend in MMA. We saw a great champion fall, another climb back up and our first UFC in the Philadelphia. Here is how we saw the action.
1. Champions will rise Just as Fast as they Will Fall
Anderson Silva rose to the occasion Saturday night. He was facing a very tough former champion at 205 lbs in Forrest Griffin and made him look like an amateur. He regained the support of the fans who booed him mercilessly during his introduction and cheered for him loudly after his KO win. One of the greatest fighters on the planet is back. Miguel Torres looked human Sunday night at WEC 42 when he was knocked out for the first time in his career by newcomer Brian Bowles in the very first round. It was Torres second loss in 39 fights and the top 5 pound for pound fighter in the world will have to go back to the drawing board and climb his way back. Read More

October 14, 2006. UFC 64. It’s a day that Kenny Florian thinks about often and uses as motivation every day in his training. Standing across the cage from him was the muscled up Sean Sherk with a UFC title on the line. Sherk’s impressive career consisted of 30 wins with only 2 loses coming to Georges St. Pierre and Matt Hughes. It’s a night that changed Florian’s fight preparatin forever. Read More
