Did Chael Prove He Is The Best?

chael-sonnenOne of the most exciting main events in UFC history is in the books and Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen deserve all the credit in the world for putting on an incredible fight at UFC 117 over the weekend in Oakland. Silva left the octagon victorious, but the fight left many wondering if Sonnen was in fact the best 185 lbs fighter in the world.

From opening bell until 3:10 in the 5th round Sonnen battered, bruised and beat up Silva so badly that final numbers showed Sonnen landing most strikes on Silva in all of Silva’s previous UFC fights combined. An impressive accomplishment indeed. Even more impressive is that unless your last name was Sonnen you gave Chael exactly a 0% chance to even come close to Anderson’s belt Saturday night. Read More

Who will Fight Jake Shields First?

jake-shieldsJake Shields and his team have officially announced that he has signed with the UFC and will make his promotional debut at 170 lbs, his natural weight class. Recently Shields found a home in the Strikeforce middleweight division with the lack of depth at 170 lbs. He beat Robbie Lawler, Jason Miller and Dan Henderson - all impressive wins. He will be entering the heavily stacked UFC welterweight division and we decided to take a crack at some options for his first fight.

1.Paulo Thiago

Thiago is coming off a decision loss to Martin Kampman at UFC 115 in June. Prior to that he has wins over Josh Koshcheck and Mike Swick and sports a 3-2 UFC record.

Strikeforce Strikes Out

werdum-fedorIt wasn’t just Fedor that tapped out last night – Strikeforce did too. Give Strikeforce time to die its rightful death but do not debate the conclusion – Strikeforce is tapping out.

Strikeforce is learning a painful lesson that could have been avoided. They are following the failed strategy of the World Hockey League (Bobby Hull), The American Football League (Joe Namath) and The North American Soccer League (Pele) in signing big names in hopes of eating away at the established player in their market. Never worked before, won’t work now.

Strikeforce bet on Fedor with a big contract. They tossed in Dan Henderson as a little salad dressing on the Emperor’s salad. Read More

Overeem vs Fedor Can Sell PPVs
Alistair Overeem Saturday Night

Alistair Overeem Saturday Night

As I sipped my beer and sat watching Strikeforce MMASaturday I couldn’t help wonder as a ‘hardcore’ MMA fan, if anyone outside of this group knows who Alistair Overeem is. As impressive as he has been fighting overseas for Dream and K-1 I always wonder if the casual fan has the slightest clue who some of these guys are. Compare the Strikeforce marketing to that of the UFC and it’s easy to see that more people know of UFC fighter Todd Duffee with 1 UFC fight than Shinya Aoki who just fought for the Strikeforce lightweight title. UFC July 31st Announcements Leaked

6132-danawhiteufc83postAs with all things meant to be kept a secret, someone tells a friend in confidence and eventually it is headline news.

It is no different when it comes to the UFC and their upcoming July 31st press conference where Dana White has promised to announce “a lot of crazy things”.

Once again I have been able to obtain a sneak preview of the events that are planned and indeed there are some items on the list that have me equal parts aghast, shocked and appalled. Read More

I Support You Pumpkin Eater Barnett

barnett1It will be easy to criticize John Barnett over what is being alleged as a positive drug test that is going to remove him as Fedor’s opponent in what is likely the final Affliction card.

Cheater cheater pumpkin eater.  I get it.  It’s wrong.  Bad Josh.

But let’s hold on a second here before we rush to judgment Read More

No Doubt Lesnar Ate The Most Hot Dogs

059865_wrestle_GXW_We all remember the bully growing up.

I did not go to grade school or high school with Brock Lesnar, but I can bet with near certainty of winning that he exemplified the bully growing up.

No doubt if you went to Mom Lesnar’s place and asked to see little Brock’s class picture from grade three there would be 20 or so four foot tall kids and an eight foot Brocky Lesnar towering Read More

Pair Of Giggles Beats Ace High

tim-and-rayHee hee Mirko Cro-Cop and ha ha to you Tim Sylvia.  You both had me laughing on the weekend and once in awhile we all need a chuckle.  Thanks guys.

They approached their jokes in different ways, but each achieved the same level of hilarity by the end of the weekend.

Let’s start with Tim “Ten Second” Sylvia.  If you haven’t seen the fight, take a few seconds (literally) and watch the below: Read More

Gene Sapakoff Might Have Goo for Brains

Image of Gene Sapakoff from media.charleston.net We all know there are some battles ahead when looking to get mixed martial arts sanctioned in all states as well as across Canada. New York being one of the main targets where we all hope to see positive movement in the near term.

Recently, there was some progress in Alabama as well as South Carolina towards approval of our beloved MMA that was of course tempered with the usual backlash of uninformed journalistic babble from individuals such as Gene Gene the Writing Machine Sapakoff. Read More
