In the continuing effort to turn Fuel TV into a major destination for MMA fans the UFC recently announced the Best of PRIDE series would return to the airwaves in a little over a week with eleven episodes to follow in subsequent weeks. The January 3 offering, set to show at 7:00 PM EST, will start things out with a New Year’s bang by featuring Fedor Emelianenko vs. Mirko Filipovic and Mark Coleman vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Kendra Perez will return as host similarly to her role when Best of PRIDE was part of the Spike TV line-up.
Other fighters being highlighted on the initial episode include Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
The UFC purchased PRIDE in 2007 with the video library being part of the package. The timing of the show couldn’t come at a better time with a major UFC event planned for Japan in late February featuring a few PRIDE stars and some overall terrific match-ups.
MMATraining Take: PRIDE never die! It’s always nice to see classic fights make the airwaves. Fortunately the UFC will have their own footage to work with after 2012 too and if they buy up the libraries of some other smaller companies they could eventually do something similar to WWE as far as a channel that’s 100% MMA content.
