“Showtime” Pettis wants to put his moves on display again in 2011

Anthony Pettis is a young kid with plenty of adrenaline helping fuel his UFC career. That’s why the man known as “Showtime” hopes to get another fight before the calendar switches to 2012.
Pettis defeated Jeremy Stephens at UFC 136 recently, getting himself back on track after a loss to Clay Guida cost him a shot at the UFC lightweight title. For Pettis, taking both fights were no-brainers, as he has said many times staying active is more important than rankings at the moment.
While many of the top 155 pounders are locked in fights at the moment, Pettis is planning on staying ready just in case something happens and he needs to fill in.
“I’d love to get back in there. That’d be ideal. There’s match ups going on right now and it doesn’t seem to promising,” said Pettis, in a recent interview with Pro MMA Radio. “But I’ll be healthy and get ready and if anybody gets hurt or injured, I’ll be ready.”
Pettis proved that he knows how to handle wrestlers when he locked Stephens down to the mat and kept him there in earning a decision victory. Guida did the same thing to Pettis in earning a decision earlier this year, as the loss knocked the former WEC champion off the top rung in terms of lightweight contenders.
Still, any fight with someone that will move him back up the rankings is interesting to Pettis.

MMATraining Take: Pettis is still growing as a fighter. Yes, the Guida loss took some steam off him in terms of being a contender, but he learned from the fight and showed that in his win over Stephens. A bout with Gray Maynard would be a nice stepping stone for Pettis to take.
