For the past few years TriStar MMA has been quietly pumping out and polishing talent while star-student Georges St. Pierre absorbed most of the public’s attention. However, with fighters like Miguel Torres, Kenny Florian, Mark Bocek, Rory MacDonald, among others, calling the gym home the quality of Firas Zahabi’s instruction is no longer a secret.
The UFC recently took a look at TriStar on Ultimate Insider and, at least based on the clip, it’s clear to see why so many apt athletes flock to the training center.
“There are a lot of guys in TriStar that people don’t know, that they never hear about, but they’re very good. That’s the thing about TriStar – they have so many diamonds in the rough,” said St. Pierre of his longtime home.
“Some of the things that make TriStar a high-level gym are the coaching and the level of sparring partners,” added Bocek, a slick submission-specialist who fights in a few weeks at UFC 145 alongside three of his training partners (Torres, MacDonald, and John Makdessi).

MMATraining Take: It was very cool to see the camaraderie at TriStar. In a lot of ways it reminds me of Jackson’s MMA 4-5 years ago based on Zahabi’s leadership and the overall collection of talent. Add in MacDonald potentially challenging for St. Pierre’s title some day and you even have a Jon Jones-Rashad Evans situation!
