It’s rare a fighter makes a UFC debut in as dominating fashion as Alistair Overeem did Friday night against former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. While his destruction of Lesnar is well-documented, fans have now been given an opportunity to get a glimpse into the powerful Dutchman’s mindset leading up to his headlining tilt at UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem.
Titled A Day in the Life of Alistair Overeem, the UFC has released a video chronicling a few media-related events Overeem had to attend last week as part of the build of to the December 30 main event. Based on his body language and demeanor Overeem appears very relaxed, a factor possibly paying off in terms of his performance against Lesnar.
“A lot of people are rooting for me, a lot of people are rooting against me, but I’m not complaining,” explains Overeem in a segment. “That’s exactly what every fighter wants. Every fighter wants their fights to be energetic and this is gonna be one of those fights.”
Oh how right he was!

MMATraining Take: I like when the UFC provides “behind the scenes” footage and I’m definitely looking forward to the backstage clips from UFC 141 that should come at some point in two weeks as part of Dana White’s UFC 142 vlog. Based on this video it seems like Overeem is a good-natured guy who goes with the flow. Reminds me of a certain heavyweight champion he’ll be facing in 2012.
