Anderson Silva named cover-athlete for UFC Undisputed 3

One of the numerous festivities taking place this week as part of the UFC 136 Fan Expo involved an announcement relating to what fighter would grace the cover of the organization’s next offering in the UFC Undisputed series. Though past versions have featured former champions Forrest Griffin and Brock Lesnar, this year game-developer THQ and the UFC opened up the selection process to fans giving them the opportunity to vote for any of the promotion’s current title-holders.
Now the ballots have been tallied and your winner is…
While Silva’s gold-wearing peers were certainly solid options, “The Spider” may have been the best choice given his propensity for putting on videogame-like displays of skill inside the Octagon. The 36-year old Brazilian holds an overall record of 31-4 including wins in all fourteen of his UFC bouts and highlight-reel finishes of Griffin, Chris Leben, Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, and most recently Yushin Okami.
UFC Undisputed 3 is scheduled for release in January 2012 and, for the first time in the game’s history, will feature bantamweight/featherweight divisions as well as a PRIDE mode featuring kicks to downed opponents.

MMATraining Take: I enjoy playing video games in my free time and am familiar with UFC Undisputed. In fact, I remember being addicted to the demo for the first one and spending numerous hours with friends battling it out as either Chuck Liddell or Mauricio Rua. However, I found EA Sports MMA to be the better game based on some of the customization options and online fight cards. If UFC Undisputed 3 can capture some of those same things while also featuring the roster of talent they have, consider me first in line come January.
