Former UFC interim heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has been forced to withdraw from a planned meeting with Cheick Kongo at UFC 149. Apparently “Minotauro” is still experiencing issues with the arm Frank Mir broke in a December bout and will not be ready in time for the July 21 event.
Shawn Jordan, a former LSU football standout who won his UFC debut over Oli Thompson, will step up in place of Nogueira.
Sherdog first reported the change in fight plans.
Jordan (13-3) came over to the UFC from Strikeforce. He is 4-1 in his last five outings. Comparably, Kongo (17-7-2) will be seeking his eleventh UFC victory in seventeen fights.

MMATraining Take: What a huge disappointment for Kongo, as a win over Nogueira could have done wonders for his career. Now, he’ll have to make sure he doesn’t overlook Jordan, a rising prospect who could take advantage of the situation presented to him.
