B.J. Penn returns home to continue preparation for UFC 137
Posted by Joe Rice
Former double-divisional champion B.J. Penn has never shied away from his love of Hawaii, his longtime home and central training ground. Penn recently packed up shop after a stint in California and returned to Hilo while continuing to prepare for next weekend’s headlining tilt against Nick Diaz at UFC 137.
Penn and Diaz were named to the main event after Georges St. Pierre went down with an injury and was forced out of his title-defense against Carlos Condit.
Penn spoke about what time on the island means to him in his latest video from sponsor RVCA as part of a series titled “The Road to UFC 137”.
“I came back to Hawaii for three weeks ground myself over here, mentally and emotionally. This is where I’m from. This is where my strength is. This is where my manna is,” Penn explained while mentioning a handful of training partners he’d brought in.
With his head in the right place and a potential chance to earn a third go at St. Pierre coming up on October 29 it looks like “The Prodigy” is ready to make one last run at welterweight gold.
