Brian Stann booked for bout against Alessio Sakara at UFC on Fuel 2

The UFC’s upcoming effort in Sweden is starting to come together with a handful of bouts materializing including a recently announced rumble between middleweights Brian Stann and Alessio Sakara. The two will meet on April 14 as part of the televised main card set to be broadcast on Fuel TV.
News of the match-up was confirmed earlier today by the UFC.
Stann is coming off a loss to Chael Sonnen after working his way into a position of title-contendership with a series of impressive victories against Mike Massenzio, Chris Leben, and Jorge Santiago. The 31-year old holds an overall record of 11-4 including eight strike-based stoppages.
Similarly to Stann, Sakara will also be looking to get back on the winning track after falling short in latest outing. The American Top Team product hasn’t fought since March where he lost a decision to Chris Weidman. Among his fifteen total victories are instances of success against James Irvin and Thales Leites.
No main event has been announced for UFC on Fuel 2 yet though appearances are expected from Cyrille Diabate, DaMarques Johnson, and Papy Abedi.

MMATraining Take: This is a decent match-up meant to increase Stann’s profile by giving him a relatively beatable opponent with a sliver of name value involved. The UFC is smart. They don’t want to see Stann drop two fights in a row when he can be marketed like a superstar with the right record.
