Brock Lesnar: “If you don’t have your health you don’t have anything.”

By all accounts UFC heavyweight Brock Lesnar is one tough S.O.B., having even been equated to a warrior of old in terms of his mental make-up. With a life full of athletic accomplishment and an imposing physical stature Lesnar was as confident as fighters come. However, a growing family and two frightening encounters with diverticulitis have apparently humbled the former champion some and left him a bit more introspective than had been the case beforehand.

Earlier today Lesnar took part in a conference call with media where he maintained a reserved demeanor, avoiding any self-promotion or verbal jabs directed towards UFC 141 opponent Alistair Overeem.

“If you don’t have your health you don’t have anything,” Lesnar explained while adding that he currently feels great. The 34-year old also mentioned his extended layoff while recovering from his latest bout of diverticulitis has provided additional motivation to train and excel in the Octagon after seeing his career threatened.

As far as how he sees his headliner against Overeem going, Lesnar simply said he plans to roll with the punches and avoided making any predictions other than feeling positive the match-up wasn’t going to decision.

“This is a heavyweight fight we’re both going into to finish. I don’t foresee it going five rounds… This is a dog-eat-dog division.”

Fans can see Lesnar vs. Overeem on PPV when things start up at 10:00 PM EST on December 30. Other fights on the card include Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks and Nate Diaz vs. Donald Cerrone.

MMATraining Take: I was on the conference call today and I got the feeling Lesnar may have been tired or under the weather. He lacked some sort of spark, even saying that he was taking things “a day at a time”. I’m all for humility but Lesnar is best when foaming at the mouth so I fear for his well-being come NYE weekend.
