A welterweight contest has been added to the slate of fights set for a summer Hometown Throwdown where fans will vote on the event’s actual location. According to multiple sources, Charlie 15-3 grappler Charlie Brenneman will look to muffle the buzz surrounding rising Brazilian star Erick Silva at the June 8 show and attempt to pick up his second straight win in the process as well.
Brenneman made a name for himself by beating Rick Story on short notice only to follow it up with a knockout loss to Anthony Johnson. However, the 31-year old recovered in his subsequent outing, bringing home a convincing decision win over Daniel Roberts this past January.
His younger counterpart is coming off a loss albeit a controversial one after a referee ruled he’d landed an illegal strike to the back of Carlo Prater’s head despite the contact appearing incidental at worst. At 13-2, Silva has had his hand raised in nine of his last ten bouts with ten total stoppages to his credit as well.

MMATraining Take: No objection here to this pairing. Silva and Brenneman are both on the cusp of being considered contenders. Each could use the win and neither can afford the loss. It’s also a good stylistic match in terms of aggressive competitors with well-rounded arsenals.
