On Sunday the UFC will host UFC on versus 5 for free on your cable network. Headlining the show will be Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy (23-9-0) who will square off to face Chris “Lights Out” Lytle (40-18-4). There’s no doubt these two will put on quite a show but for Hardy this fight will possibly be do or I die for the popular fighter from the U.K.
Hardy is coming off three straight losses, his most recent to Anthony Johnson by unanimous decison. Prior to that fight, Hardy lost by TKO to Carlos Condit and by unanimous decision to Georges St Pierre in a title fight at UFC 111 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Hardy’s opponent, Lytle, has announced this will be his last fight and is looking to end his UFC career in dominant fashion and walk away with the win. Should Lytle beat Hardy in the main event, one would have to wonder if that would be the end of “The Outlaw” in the UFC.
The fact that Hardy also needed three attempts to make weight on Saturday leads us to believe Hardy may not be taking things seriously. He will definitely have his hands full with Lytle and will need to do all he can to avoid being cut after Sunday’s fight. It will be hard to justify keeping a fighter who potentially will have lost four straight, fighting in an organization that boasts about having the absolute best mixed martial artists in the world. The great month of August MMA continues tonight.
