Dana White sees Toronto as the world’s top MMA market

Sorry Rio de Janeiro, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Houston, or any other number of MMA-loving areas, as the UFC’s #1 market appears to be North of the Border in Toronto.

If that point hadn’t already been driven home by the record-breaking attendance at UFC 129, Dana White made it clear by stating the fact plainly in front of the boisterous crowd attending yesterday’s press conference promoting the organization’s upcoming stop in the city on December 10 for UFC 140.

During the proceedings White also mentioned the Octagon will return to Toronto in 2012 with an event on par with this past April’s offering which filled the Rogers Centre with 55,000 screaming fans.

You can watch White talk about the UFC’s respect for Toronto, as well as light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and contender Lyoto Machida discuss their upcoming bout at UFC 140 by watching the press conference below:

MMATraining Take: I obviously don’t have access to the numbers but I have a feeling White’s words were not simply lip service. Based on the passion Canadian fans have shown in general, even in Montreal, and the turnout for their events there I don’t doubt Toronto is sitting atop the marketing chart with a #1 next to it.
