Though the prelims may have been a bit lackluster last night at UFC on FX 3, bantamweights Eddie Wineland and Scott Jorgensen things certainly started things right when the main card rolled around. The two talented 135ers went toe-to-toe for a round-plus of action featuring a number of solid blows landed, a bloodied Jorgensen, and a huge cut on Wineland’s forehead that was straight of a horror movie.
In the end Wineland walked away with a knockout win though both men were victors, earning $40,000 extra after their showing netted Fight of the Night honors.
A pair of first-round finishes took home Knockout of the Night and Submission of the Night. The former involved Mike Pyle’s pasting of Josh Neer, who he left face-down on the canvas with a beautiful blow, while the latter went to Erick Silva for his ruthless Rear-Naked Choke of the always-game Charlie Brenneman. Like Wineland/Jorgensen, both Pyle and Silva were awarded a $40,000 bonus for the distinction.

MMATraining Take: No complaints here. Yes, the undercard was boring with 1-2 exceptions, but the FX-portion of the broadcast was brilliant. Wineland could have earned KotN as well given his finish of Jorgensen, while Ian McCall-Demetrious Johnson was FotN material as well.
