Fabricio Werdum hopes for title-fight rematch with Junior dos Santos

Prior to defeating Roy Nelson this past weekend at UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit, the last taste Fabricio Werdum experienced inside the Octagon was a sour one.
Werdum fought Junior dos Santos back in 2008 when dos Santos was a relative unknown in the MMA world. The current UFC heavyweight champ handed Werdum his first-ever knockout loss of his career, and he left for Strikeforce after that.
Now, nearly four years later, Werdum is looking to continue his climb to a title shot – and vengeance – with “Cigano.”
“It’s obvious; I have to fight ‘Cigano’ again,” said Werdum, in a recent interview with TATAME. “When he got here, people didn’t know him in the UFC and I took that fight. When UFC offers me this fight, in three, four fights from now, I hope he accepts it.”
Werdum made quite the statement by battering Nelson for three rounds, but, as he said, is still a few more key victories away from contending for the title in a very deep division.

MMATraining Take: If Werdum is paired with Frank Mir, and defeats him, that could leave him either right in the No. 1 spot or scheduled for a match to determine the next challenger to the UFC title. Either way, Werdum could be looking at a rematch, as he also lost to current No. 1 contender Alistair Overeem.
