Fedor Emelianenko’s next fight will be in Russia
Posted by Richard Parker
This fall a legend of the sport will return to the ring with the support of a hometown crowd behind him as he tries to get back on the winning track – Fedor Emelianenko.
According to M-1 Global head Vadim Finkelstein, “The Last Emperor” has agreed to fight in the next few months at an event in Russia. No details were given in the form of a date or opponent.
Emelianenko appeared unbeatable more than thirty fights into his career before being finished in his last three match-ups. Most recently the 34-year old went toe-to-toe with Dan Henderson at the end of July where he was stopped with strikes in the final minute of the first round. Previously he had been beaten by Antonio Silva and Fabricio Werdum in fairly one-sided showings.
The 31-4 Emelianenko rose to prominence based primarily on showings in Japan under the PRIDE banner with wins over Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman, Heath Herring, Mirko “Cro Cop”, and Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira. He also holds past victories over Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski.
