After fighting for his right to a rematch in his typically hard-nosed fashion, former UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar finally has an official date for his second crack at beating current title-holder Benson Henderson. While not confirmed by the UFC, multiple outlets have reported Edgar’s attempt at redemption will come in Denver, Colorado on August 11 at UFC 150.
Edgar-Henderson will join a card already featuring Thiago Tavares-Dennis Hallman and Yushin Okami-Luiz Cane.
Edgar’s first fight with Henderson came in February where he was outpointed by the much bigger “Bendo”. However, Edgar’s heart kept him in the contest from start to finish, while his technique did enough to convince the public he deserved one more go at it. The two talented 155ers hold a combined record of 30-4-1 with wins over the likes of Jim Miller, Clay Guida, Donald Cerrone, Sean Sherk, Gray Maynard, and B.J. Penn.

MMATraining Take: I wish these two were fighting sooner since this means the winner of Miller vs. Nate Diaz will have to either wait six months or see their promised title-shot go out the window. Honestly, I see Diaz-Miller having to fight Anthony Pettis this fall but we’ll see. Either way, Henderson vs. Edgar 2 will be a blast, and I’m glad things are essentially set in stone on that front.
