With back-to-back Strikeforce victories over the previously undefeated Billy Evangelista and former EliteXC lightweight champion KJ Noons, Jorge Masvidal earned himself a title shot against current Strikeforce lightweight king Gilbert Melendez.
It appears that December will be the month that hosts the lightweight showdown.
News of the potential date was first reported by MMAJunkie.com
No official date or venue have been announced for the event but all signs point to the show running on December 17.
The bout against Masvidal will be Melendez’ third defense of his title since he officially unified the belts with Josh Thomson back in December 2009. He was last seen in action against top-ranked Japan lightweight Tatsuya Kawajiri back in April. After a year away from the cage, Melendez made short work of Kawajiri, finishing him with strikes in the opening round of the contest.
