Is Clay Guida Next for Ben Henderson?
Posted by Danny Gonzalez
After a huge win this weekend over Jim Miller, Ben “Smooth” Henderson finds himself in contention for a possible title shot. Miller initially was the front runner going into the fight, but was dealt his first loss in eight fights at the hands of Henderson. This complicates the light weight division even further.
With Jim Miller now out of the picture, only two names come to mind as the new number one contender, Clay Guida and “Bendo”.
Guida is coming off a huge victory at the the Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale over Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, the former WEC champion and previous #1 contender. Guida however seemed to express his disinterest in having to fight Henderson for a title shot and said, “I’ve already beat the guy that beat the guy” in a post fight interview after Sunday’s fight. It appears now that Miller is out of the picture Guida expects to be next in line for the title shot.
Guida is not yet scheduled to fight and may be due to the UFC waiting for the outcome of the Miller and Henderson fight.
It would make most sense to see Guida fight Henderson next. The fight would no doubt be entertaining and has potential for fight of the night. A meeting between the two would also bring clarity to a stacked light weight division and the winner would receive the title shot against the winner of Edgar and Maynard. Many of us are eager to see how this plays out and hopefully UFC president Dana White will make the announcement soon.
