Jamie Varner staying active, wants another shot in UFC

Following a 0-3-1 stretch in the WEC, former lightweight champion Jamie Varner was released by Zuffa in December 2010. After contemplating retirement, Varner decided it was best to get off the coach and fight his way back into the organization.

Picking up a first round submission victory in May over Tyler Combs, Varner has scheduled fights against Alonzo Martinez on September 23 at Titan FC 20 and another fight against Nate Jolly on October 21 at XFC 14.

Speaking with NBCSports.com, Varner said, “There’s still some tread on these tires. There’s still some fights to be fought and some battles to be won…I want to get back in the UFC and fight in the UFC.”

Martinez has won 30 professional fights and is currently on a three fight win streak. He’s fought top names such as Clay Guida, Toby Imada, and Yves Edwards.

Jolly has won ten of his 13 professional bouts but has it a rough patch, going 2-2 in his last four appearances.
