After notching back-to-back Fight of the Night awards at 205 pounds, 29-year old Jared Hamman kept the excitement going last August with an exciting comeback win in his middleweight debut against C.B. Dollaway at UFC Live 5.
Hamman will look to build on the win this December 10 in Toronto as part of the UFC 140 lineup and has drawn Matt Serra student Constantinos Philippou as an opponent. Philippou is coming off a Split Decision victory over Jorge Rivera. Holding an overall record of 8-2, he is 1-1 in the UFC with half of his total triumphs coming way of a TKO.
“The Messenger” has also found the bulk of his success through strike-based stoppages (10/12 wins) with a pair of submissions in the bunch as well. He holds past victories over Rodney Wallace, Aaron Rosa, and Travis Wiuff.
The UFC announced the middleweights’ match-up earlier today, adding that the clash had completed a card now boasting tweleve total fights. Other fights at UFC 140 include Jon Jones defending his light heavyweight title against former champion Lyoto Machida, as well as Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Tito Ortiz.

MMATraining Take: I like this pairing stylistically though I think Hamman should handle Philippou with relative ease. He’s got tremendous heart and is a bit more technical than his East Coast counterpart.
