Jon Jones: “I think Lyoto definitely has a chance to win the fight.”

UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones has looked unbeatable in each of his UFC outings despite facing former title-holders Mauricio Rua and Quinton Jackson, as well as a slew of solid adversaries like Brandon Vera, Matt Hamill, and Stephan Bonnar. However, that doesn’t mean “Bones” sees himself as invincible by any means, knowing his professional path involves an endeavor where any individual can lose at any given time.

Jones’ outlook on the mortality of Mixed Martial Artists was formed long before he ever put the divisional belt around his waist. As a matter of fact, the 24-year old saw the same to be true of his next challenger – Lyoto Machida – who was once 16-0 and receiving similar buzz before running into “Shogun” Rua.

“I always knew that I would fight Lyoto one day,” said Jones in an extended preview for UFC 140. “And I always watched his style, and I’ve always known that he wasn’t invincible and that anyone could be beaten.”

“I think Lyoto definitely has a chance to win the fight – everyone has a chance to win a fight,” he continued. “My job is to make sure the chances are extremely slim (and) I believe that it’s my destiny to be the UFC champion for many years.”

Joining Machida and Jones on the December 10 card are match-ups featuring Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Tito Ortiz.

MMATraining Take: Jones definitely has the right attitude as far as not buying into his own hype. Clearly he’s a confident person but not to the point of feeling he’s more than a human being at the end of the day. Incredible poise for a kid who just turned 24 a few months ago.
