Jose Aldo plans to keep knocking people out
Posted by Dan Becks
UFC featherweight king Jose Aldo ended all the talk of him becoming a boring fighter this past weekend, delivering a knockout victory over Chad Mendes to his Brazilian faithful.
In the main event of UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes, “Scarface” stopped the #1 contender and undefeated Mendes with a knockout at the 4:59 mark of the first round. Aldo halted several takedown attempts by the wrestler, finishing him off in electrifying fashion with a stiff knee to the Californian’s face.
Following the win, Aldo exited the Octagon and celebrated with the mass of Brazilian fans who didn’t seem to mind it being the middle of the morning when the fight ended.
“My fans give me so much love and so much good energy,” Aldo said, “so there’s nothing better than celebrating with them.”
Many in the MMA world were already starting to compare Aldo to UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre, claiming he lacked the killer instinct to finish fights. However, with this convincing win over Mendes, those pundits were put to rest.
“It’s what we train to do and hopefully we’ll be knocking a lot of people out,” explained the phenomenal 145er.

MMATraining Take: Aldo’s best fights may be at the lightweight division, but I expect him to hang around at featherweight for another year or so and make sure to completely clean out the division before moving up.
