Kenny Florian isn’t happy with the current state of MMA, as the analyst on UFC Tonight recently went off on those that test positive for performance enhancing drugs. Florian prides himself on having never failed a drug test, working his way to several UFC championship matches during his career.
The most recent example of someone who hasn’t followed that path came courtesy of UFC heavyweight #1 contender Alistair Overeem who was found to have an elevated level of testosterone in his system during a pre-fight drug test. Overeem’s status for his scheduled bout with UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is up in the air until a hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission takes place later this month.
Florian, during a brief segment on the show Tuesday night, said, “As a clean fight this really pisses me off. This sport is about honor, technique and discipline….How many fights are we going to miss out on due to failed pre- and post-fight testing?…Don’t do it dummies.”

MMATraining Take: Florian’s request for more random drug testing could be a good start. Getting this problem cleaned up is critical to the mainstream push MMA is trying to give itself. Look at major league baseball and how much steroids have impacted the game there. Something needs to be done to keep fighters from taking illegal measures to get better.
