Miesha Tate-Ronda Rousey planned for Strikeforce’s March card

It would appear that women’s MMA will get the second coming of Cris Santos-Gina Carano, as reports have surfaced revealing Miesha Tate will take on Ronda Rousey in early March at Strikeforce’s planned card for Columbus, Ohio.

Tate is the current Strikeforce bantamweight champ, having taken the title from Marloes Coenen in 2011 to earn her sixth straight victory. Rousey, meanwhile, has made a quick splash on the MMA scene after the Olympic bronze medalist in Judo went a perfect 4-0 (the first four fights of her MMA career).

If the fight is signed, it would join the finals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix on the March 3 date. Daniel Cormier and Josh Barnett will meet to crown a champion in the GP event.

Though the story was reported by MMAWeekly citing sources close to the situation, Rousey took to her Twitter account late Wednesday night, saying, “I haven’t signed anything, nothing is official, everybody calm down,” in regards to talk of the pending bout.

MMATraining Take: With the verbal warfare these two ladies have exchanged in the past few weeks, women’s MMA needs this fight to take place. Both are rising stars, and it would seem like they can deliver inside and outside of the cage.
