A quartet of fights have been signed to the August UFC on FOX 4 event with the lineup apparently nearing completion. Announced recently were bouts between Mike Swick-DaMarques Johnson, Josh Grispi-Pablo Garza, Nam Phan-Cole Miller, and Manvel Gamburyan-Michihiro Omigawa.
UFC officials confirmed all of the match-ups have been verbally agreed to. UFC on FOX 4 features a main event pitting Hector Lombard against Brian Stann. The card takes place August 4 in Los Angeles.
Swick (14-4) has been out of action for over two years, battling illness and injuries, but has picked up a number of impressive wins inside the Octagon. Similarly to Swick, Johnson (16-10) is a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter.
Grispi (14-3) is also returning after over a year away and will be facing a fighter in Garza (11-3) who will be hoping to end a two-fight losing skid.
Phan (17-10), Miller (18-6), Gamburyan (11-7) and Omigawa (13-11) all are looking to make a statement in the UFC’s 145-pound division and need wins after struggling to find success in recent outings.
MMATraining Take: These are all interesting matches for the eight fighters involved, as they all seem to need a big-time win to stay relevant in the ever-expanding UFC. Swick and Grispi have been close to title-contention before, so they know what is at stake. Phan is a highlight reel, while Miller tends to take every fight like it is his last anyway.
