Muay Thai Evolution 6, which is promoted by Kru Chris Kew and Kru Jeff Harrison, and sanctioned by CAMTAO will be a night of Muay Thai fighting you will not want to miss. This event takes place Friday June 27, 2008 and starts at 8:00pm (doors open at 6:00 for live entertainment) and will run until approx 10:30 pm. The event is being held at the Stratford Recreation Centre, in Stratford, Ontario, Canada.
We caught up with MMA and Muay Thai veteran Jeff Harrison and Jeff is expecting it to be “a great night of fights, featuring the top gyms in Ontario. One of MAS Thai Boxing’s top students, Robert Thomas, only 15 years old will be going up against Matt Embry of Siam no 1, who won the gold medal at the junior world championship in Thailand last year.”
We also had the chance to catch up with co-promoter Chris Kew and he noted “The sport of Thai boxing is new in Ontario, and these two fighters have grown up in the step by step development model to become amazing athletes. Both have had success internationally. Matt is known as the top young dog in the GTA, while Robert has been making a name for himself at the CAMTAO shows in the Cambridge, Stratford and Ottawa. The great thing about Muay Thai is that the best will always clash at the top.” said Kew.
One of the other Main events will feature one of the top dogs out of the OAMA crew in Ottawa, Rob Anderson. This team is one of the most accomplished Jiu Jitsu Schools in Canada, and over the last 3 years has been developing it’s Thai Boxing Program. Kru Mark Holst, the teacher at OAMA just decimated Mark Beecher (of team Griffin on this season of the Ultimate fighter) at XFA on May 31st, proving that they belong among the upper echelon of Thaiboxing Schools in Canada. It will be interesting to see how Rob’s skills will match up against Duen Mitchel of M-1 Thaiboxing. Duen has been in the ring against top competition and has always proven to be very game. M-1 is also one of the most respected school’s in Canada, lead by Alex Ricci, who is nothing short of a Canadian Thaiboxing legend, even though he’s only in his mid 20’s. This match will be for a Muay Thai Evolution 168lbs Title, and should be an exciting one.
The events third featured bout between Mikey Perez and Tony Manoharan will be to determine the number one Ontario contender in the featherwieght division. Perez is an explosive fighter, who only has suffered one loss in his first fight, that being at the hands of Mark Hominick before he turned pro. Needless to say he has been in the game for a while and is hungry to get a belt around his waist. He has knock out power and a vicious clinch game and will need it to face Manoharan, who is coming off an extreme training tour of the best gyms in Thailand, where he fought pro. Tony holds a victory over Bobby Whittaker, the current Ontario title holder, and is eager to get his shot to fight him for the third time and win the rubber match.
There will be 5 other exciting match ups. Harrison also added “This will be a high quality production featuring high quality Muay Thai. Anyone who hasn’t seen an amateur Muay Thai show is really missing out. The action is quite often even greater pro matches, becasue these kids have absolutely nothing to lose. I would encourage everyone to come out, bring their families, and enjoy the fun.”
