If Nate Diaz gets his way he has no plans to fight friend and frequent training partner Frankie Edgar though it remains to be seen if the popular pugilist would change his tune if a UFC title was on the line.
Diaz and Jim Miller are set to meet #1 contender’s match at UFC on FOX 3, while Edgar will get a chance to re-claim his title against new champion Benson Henderson later this year. However, if both emerge successful it could set up a potential problem given their professional relationship.
“I’m not really big on fighting Frankie, you know?” said Diaz, in a recent interview with MMAFighting. “Frankie came down to train with me and he represents Renzo Gracie and Ricardo Almeida, I train with Cesar (Gracie) so, I really don’t want no part of that fight. I’m mostly interested in fighting people I don’t know.”
Diaz put his mark on the lightweight division with his recent victory over Donald Cerrone building off a previous victory over Takanori Gomi.

MMATraining Take: Nick Diaz, Nate’s brother, had similar issues with fighting B.J. Penn last year, but those went out the window. Nate seems to be more steadfast in his decision now, but, if the chance to wear UFC gold is on the line, maybe he will re-think his decision? Either way it presents an interesting conundrum to address if things unfold in a certain way.
