Pair Of Giggles Beats Ace High

Hee hee Mirko Cro-Cop and ha ha to you Tim Sylvia.  You both had me laughing on the weekend and once in awhile we all need a chuckle.  Thanks guys. 

 They approached their jokes in different ways, but each achieved the same level of hilarity by the end of the weekend.

 Let’s start with Tim “Ten Second” Sylvia.  If you haven’t seen the fight, take a few seconds (literally) and watch the below:

 Ok, now you get the joke right?  Tim seems to have left any skills behind in his last two fights (a combined 47 seconds) and settled on one strategy – be tall.  It seems Sylvia’s coaching staff studied the tapes of the Fedor fight and came away with the following game plan “Tim, we want you to enter the octagon, take a huge punch to the head and fall as though you are the oldest oak tree on the planet.  Now get out there and be tall”. 

 As for Cro Cop, he pulled a funny one too.  It starts with his match up against Mostapha Al-Turk at UFC99. He dominates Al-Turk from the start as you would expect and then as a finishing move he plays poke in the eye.  When asked about it during the post fight interview his response can be summarized as follows; “does it really matter Joe?  I was fighting Mostapha Al-Turk.  So I poked him in the eye.  It was funny.  Who cares?”  Then the capper.  He leaves the octagon and pulls out of his black shorts a contract with DREAM that was in place prior to the Al-Turk fight.  Tada!  Dana White didn’t get the joke:

 “Isn’t that a dirty [expletive] thing to do?” White told Yahoo! Sports. “He [expletive] me. The first time in the history of the company I do one over the phone. He promised me a three-fight deal and he [expletive] me. He didn’t keep his word. He talked about honor and all this other [expletive] and he [expletive] me. He fed me this bull [expletive] about wanting to take a run for the title, and what I think he did was, he went out and did this. He turned down every other [expletive] fighter I offered him, because I needed him to fight Cain. He didn’t just poke Al-Turk; he poked me, too.”

 As these jokes were being told, Rich “Ace” Franklin beat Wanderlai “The Axe Murderer” Sylva.  A good fight, but not funny.  At that point in the night I was in the mood for funny.

 Safe to conclude two things based on the events of the weekend:

1.       Tim Sylvia is done.  Not to worry, he will remain tall.

2.       Cro Cop will not be wearing a UFC belt anytime soon.  Neither will Mostapha Al-Turk.
