Before last night UFC heavyweight Pat Barry had gone more than two years without knocking an opponent out, or at least doing so to the point a fight was stopped in the case of Cheick Kongo. However, Barry most certainly got that monkey off his back at UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller by blasting Christian Morecraft into next month after weathering an early storm on the ground.
Barry spoke some about the knockout, as well as his improved wrestling and BJJ, in a post-fight interview with the UFC where even he seemed impressed by the violent nature of his finish.
“I’m working on this killer instinct thing, and I know that you’re never you’re never supposed to stop until the ref stops it. But that was a lot of accurate punches on the ground. Like very accurate punches on the ground to a point a part of me started feeling like this…,” said Barry before turning to the camera and making a “scary” face.
“That was kind of trippy, man. I haven’t done that in awhile,” he concluded.

MMATraining Take: I’ve given Barry a hard time before and his performance last night was definitely solid. However, I think any top level fighter (or grappler) would have finished him in a few of the positions Morecraft had. It was moderately impressive but no more than that.
