Pat Barry: “I am here to win – but I won’t fight any other way than bomb, bomb, bombs away!”

Affable UFC heavyweight Pat Barry may only be 3-4 inside the Octagon but he has no interest in changing his style or approach to fighting at this point in his career. A hard-hitting, tree trunk of a competitor, the 32-year old Barry will look to even his record on Friday night when he faces 7-2 finisher Christian Morecraft as part of the main card for UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller.

When Barry meets Morecraft in the cage he’ll do so with a singular mindset – knock the Massachusetts native out or be knocked out, whichever comes first. “HD” spoke some about his strategy earlier this week where he explained that, as much as he wants to come out with his hand raised, he won’t let winning define who he is so much as how the victory comes about.

“I am coming off two losses but losses in great fights. I am here to win – but I won’t fight any other way than bomb, bomb, bombs away,” an excited Barry exclaimed in a UFC press release. “Whether I am 0-2 in my last two or if I was 40-0, I would fight the same. I punch and kick full power with every shot until the other guy falls or I fall. It’s what I do, it is what I am.”

Viewers can catch Barry-Morecraft when the show starts up on FX at 9:00 PM EST. The evening’s headliner features heavy-handed lightweight Melvin Guillard mixing it up with top-flight grappler Jim Miller.

MMATraining Take: While I still don’t feel Barry deserves to be on the UFC roster given his record I definitely appreciate his attitude. Far too often fighters let the pressure of a win affect their in-ring approach, opting to blanket an opponent en route to a decision victory rather than turn in an entertaining performance. Barry is all about the fans and staying true to himself. It’s hard not to respect that.
