When news broke yesterday that former Strikeforce lightweight champ Josh Thomson had been forced to withdraw from Strikeforce’s September 10 show in Cincinnati it may have left Zuffa officials scrambling for a suitable replacement. Enter Pat Healy, a seasoned veteran with wins in a number of significant scraps.
“Bam Bam” went on Twitter last night to let the MMA community, and his bosses, know that he’ll be more than happy to slide into Thomson’s spot opposite streaking newcomer Maximo Blanco.
“Hit up Strikeforce and let them know you wanna see me step in,” Healy wrote. The 28-year old has only fought twice in the last year despite being healthy and had previously expressed a desire to fight two more times before the end of 2011.
Healy is coming off back-to-back wins including success against then-undefeated Lyle Beerbohm in February and an outpointing of Eric Wisely in his most recent bout. The Team Quest product is 25-16 in his career with past victories over the likes of Dan Hardy, Paul Daley, and Carlos Condit.
