The days of “The New York Bad Ass” may be officially over. While Phil Baroni hasn’t expressed his intent to retire, the polarizing 35-year old has certainly struggled more than succeeded as of late in the ring. That point was brought home early this morning for fans tuning in to watch Baroni face Yoshiyuki Yoshida in co-headlining action at newly formed organization ONE FC’s debut event.
Baroni was outclassed from the start with Yoshida taking him down numerous times and testing the East Coaster’s generally suspect cardio. As has been the case so many times before, Baroni’s conditioning flunked with Yoshida easily coming out with a victory after the fight’s timeframe had expired.
The next stop on Baroni’s journey in MMA will come with a 14-14 record attached to it and a single win in the last three years. Baroni’s best days came in the early-to-mid 2000s when he found success over respected competitors like Dave Menne and Ryo Chonan.
Yoshida’s performance was a second straight win and improved his overall standing to 13-6.
