The main card for UFC on FOX 3 was completed earlier today when UFC President Dana White announced brutal BJJer Rousimar Palhares would face Alan Belcher at the event bringing the FOX broadcast to four total fights. Palhares and Belcher are both riding the momentum of three-fight winning streaks with another victory essentially ensuring them a crack at middleweight contendership.
Palhares was last seen taking out Mike Massenzio in about a minute last month at UFC 142, latching on to Massenzio’s leg to secure one of his trademark Heel Hooks. The 14-3 fighter has won ten of his bouts by way of submission including those over Ivan Salaverry, Lucio Linhares, and Tomasz Drwal.
Belcher’s trio of consecutive triumphs was a bit more spaced out than his Brazilian adversary’s after a torn retina nearly ended his career in 2010. The Roufusport product made a successful return to the ring last September where he stopped Jason MacDonald with strikes. Holding an overall record of 17-6, only one of Belcher’s losses has been the result of tapping out and occurred nearly five years ago.

MMATraining Take: The fighters scheduled for action at UFC on FOX 3 may not have the name value as those on the last FOX-based event but from an entertainment standpoint I’ll be shocked if they don’t surpass their collective effort. Belcher-Palhares in itself should be a ton of fun to watch based on their style/substance.
