Technique of the Day: Armbar Transition
Posted by MMATraining.com Staff
For every submission hold there is a counter allowing an opponent to escape, reverse positions, or at minimum prevent the aggressor from securing a tap-out. However, part of the artistry of BJJ involves the ability to prevent an opponent from defending by adjusting one’s own approach to attack from a different angle or position.
In this MMATraining Technique of the Day, Olympic medalist Judoka Ronda Rousey (who fights this weekend at Strikeforce Challengers 20) demonstrates a move labeled the “Ogoshi/Suplex Combo” where she demonstrates a transition from an Armbar attempt on the bottom to one from the side after her adversary defends against the first hold. Considering she is 3-0 in MMA with three Armbar wins chances are she knows what she’s talking about too..
