Thoughts from the Kage: Elite XC, Kim Couture and more

It is being reported that EliteXC’s next show “Unfinished Business” will feature hard nosed Nick Diaz vs. Thomas Denny, an event which will take place in Diaz home town, Stockton, CA on July 26th. Be ready for some booing Denny. A whole lot of booing. MMAJunkie is reporting that another fight that has been added is Jake Shields vs. Nick Thompson. Thompson, the former Bodog champion is on a 12 fight win streak, but Shields should prove to be his toughest test to date. Both of these fights will appear on the televised portion of the CBS show which will feature a main event rematch between Scott Smith and Robbie Lawler. Their first fight was stopped due an accidental finger in Smith’s eye.

My early picks: Diaz, Shields and Smith for the upset.

Kim Couture breaks jaw in pro debut

Kim Couture had her first professional fight on Saturday in Vegas and suffered a broken jaw in the first round. In true Couture fashion, Kim made it all the way to the final bell, but lost a unanimous decision. Couture would “Like a rematch” with her opponent Kim Rose, and has been critized for being so bold. I say good on her. Too often fighters are criticized for walking away after a bad performance.

UFN July 19

Is it just me, or is the UFC really scrambling to put this card together? The fights that they continue to add are made up of more guys that casual fan will have never heard of. I’m eagerly anticipating how this night will unfold, with the UFC Marketing Machine taking on the Affliction Heavyweight Monster card. I’m hoping that both shows are a success, since the real winners are MMA fans that night.
