TUF 15 Results: Team Faber makes statement with stoppage of Justin Lawrence

In a sport like Mixed Martial Arts there are no certainties. As such, while Justin Lawrence may have been the #1 pick on this season of the Ultimate Fighter, making the final let alone winning the show were far from being guaranteed outcomes and for good reason.

On the latest episode Lawrence was taken out by Team Faber’s Michael Chiesa who held on after getting dropped in the second round to pick up a TKO win. Chiesa came out strong in the “sudden victory” period but was taken down. However, he was able to sweep Lawrence, ended up in mount, and rained down shots until the referee stepped in to stop things.

In the other quarterfinal clash, James Vick outpointed Joe Proctor with relative ease despite eating a big shot early on.

“To be honest, that wasn’t exactly how I thought the night would go but I’m proud of both my guys, and both the guys on the other team too,” said coach Urijah Faber after the show’s conclusion. “They put on great fights tonight. This sport is all about who wants itmore and implementing your offense. Tonight I felt like Chiesa won through shear will power, and Proctor lost because he wasn’t able to put his offense first. Congrats to Vick and hope Justin Lawrence keeps his head up. He’s a young kid with a lot of talent.”

Next week’s bouts were also announced, featuring Vinc Pichel colliding with Chris Saunders and Andy Ogle seeing action against Al Iaquinta.

MMATraining Take: The fights were solid, especially in terms of Chiesa-Lawrence. Both men definitely have bright futures in the cage.
