The Ultimate Fighter franchise experienced a solid boost over the weekend when eight million Brazilian fans tuned in to watch the debut of TUF Brasil, a treat also enjoyed by fans who decided to check out the episode thanks to the UFC’s website. The episode featured coaches Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva watching 32 competitors fight for a spot in the TUF house with UFC President Dana White also in attendance to offer perspective and make sure contestants understood what was at stake.
The evening was also highlighted by a number of impressive performances including seven first frame finishes such as Hugo Wolverine’s knockout of Alexandre Ramos and Sergio Moraes‘ Heel Hook of Thiago Rela. Veterans Delson Heleno and Rodrigo Damm also advanced into the final field of sixteen.
The final two featherweights and middleweights left standing by season’s end will scrap at UFC 147 in Rio de Janeiro on a card headlined by Anderson Silva’s rematch with rival Chael Sonnen and featuring Belfort vs. Silva II as well. More than 60,000 fans are expected to attend, making TUF Brasil a legitimate “dream come true” opportunity for every man on the show.

MMATraining Take: I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode of TUF Brasil, possibly even more so than TUF 15 based on the hunger/enthusiasm present in all of the Brazilians. There were some great finishes and great personalities as well. Consider me a weekly watcher from here on out.
