The bright lights of the UFC fired up once again, this time in Washington D.C. for UFC Live 6 and an event headlined by bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz defending his title against 9-1 Demetrious Johnson. The show also involves Matt Wiman vs. Mac Danzig, Anthony Johnson vs. Charlie Brenneman, and Pat Barry vs. Stefan Struve.
Cruz held on to his title after a highly-competitive bout against Johnson that went the distance. The victory was Cruz’s ninth in the WEC/UFC and eighth by decision. He improved his overall record to 19-1 with the showing and became the longest reigning bantamweight champ in Zuffa history by beating “Mighty Mouse”.
Here’s a full rundown of UFC Live 6 results featuring occasional commentary:
Walel Watson def. Joseph Sandoval via TKO Round 1 (Strikes)
Josh Neer def. Keith Wisniewski via TKO Round 2 (Doctor Stoppage – Cuts)
T.J. Grant def. Shane Roller via Verbal Submission Round 2 (Armbar)
Mike Easton def. Byron Bloodworth via TKO Round 2 (Knees)
Paul Sass def. Michael Johnson via Submission Round 1 (Heel Hook)
Yves Edwards def. Rafaello Oliveira via TKO Round 2 (Strikes)
Matt Wiman def. Mac Danzig via Unanimous Decision
Terrific battle and will likely be “Fight of the Night”. Great showing from both.
Anthony Johnson def. Charlie Brenneman via Knockout Round 1 (Head Kick)
Brenneman may have been hurt by the kick but was completely conscious. Immediately protests. Bad stoppage by Mario Yamasaki. Second of the night for him.
Stefan Struve def. Pat Barry via Submission Round 2 (Triangle Choke)
Fight started out a little boring but ended up fun. Struve went for a submission and took a “Rampage” Jackson-like powerbomb for his trouble but ultimately ended up cinching in the Triangle Choke even more and got the tap.
Dominick Cruz vs. Demetrious Johnson
Entertaining fight with Cruz not finishing again. Shocker.
