The new format of the Ultimate Fighter has allowed fans to observe a number of memorable moments live. The week’s episode will be no different with a pair of semifinalists set to emerge as well as next week’s match-ups being announced.
However, the show will also come with an added bonus, as it appears UFC President Dana White will announce an opponent for Urijah Faber’s fight at UFC 148. “The California Kid” had previously been scheduled to face fellow bantamweight champion (and fellow coach) Dominick Cruz before he went down with a torn ACL.
Though not confirmed it appears Renan Barao is the most likely replacement for Cruz. The Brazilian youngster boasts an overall record of 28-1 and hasn’t lost since his professional debut. Faber has pointed to him as the most deserving candidate while Barao has stated he would face Faber if given the opportunity to do so.
Regardless of who Faber faces the bout will involve an interim title as Cruz will likely be sidelined until 2013 based on the severity of his injury.

MMATraining Take: It will be incredibly disappointing if Barao isn’t named to the vacancy. He’s as deserving a contender as there is on the roster and he was already slated to fight at the very event he’d be fighting Faber at.
