Two of the most popular fighters to ever emerge from Brazil will have a chance to entertain their fellow countrymen in headlining action when Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva meet at UFC 147. The two have shared a heated rivalry for years and can currently be seen coaching against each other on TUF Brasil.
News of their match-up serving as the main event was confirmed earlier today by UFC President Dana White. Originally Anderson Silva’s rematch with Chael Sonnen was slated for the top spot but had to be moved based on some difficulty in scheduling a large enough arena to host such a major fight.
Belfort has notched two first-round finishes since losing to “The Spider” last year with his most recent victory involving a submission of Anthony Johnson. He holds an overall record of 21-9 with seventeen stoppages to his credit. Comparably “The Axe Murderer” is 34-11-1 with 27 night-ending efforts including a November win over Cung Le.
The June 23 card will take place in Rio de Janeiro.

MMATraining Take: Belfort-Silva would never work as a PPV main event here in the States but it makes perfect sense for UFC 147. Both men are beloved by Brazilians and will surely entertain them come showtime given their respective styles.
