History
Universal MMA teaches a great mix of highly effective variety of disciplines such as MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing and wrestling. Universal MMA also offers a complete BJJ program under the guidance of Marcus Soares, a 7th degree Carlson Gracie Black Belt, that incorporates excellent technique, live sparring, competition training and fitness.
Whether you are just looking to lose a few extra pounds or seeking a competitive game, Universal MMA offers Combat Conditioning. Moving through evolving high intensity circuits including calisthenics, plyometics, core strength routines and more, combat conditioning will give you the functional fitness and confidence to meet your challenges head on.

Head Instructor
Denis Kang
Denis started training in wrestling while going to Vancouver's Belmoral Junior Secondary School but it wasn't until 1997 when Denis became a student of Marcus Soares. Under the guidance of Soares, Denis learned grappling, earned his brown belt, racked in a number of wins in Jiu-Jitsu and no-gi competitions and began training for No-Holds-Barred style matches.
His debut fight was at an underground event held in Richmond, BC inside an industrial warehouse, a fight that took Denis only 17 seconds to win. Since then, he has competed in events such as Pancrase, Extreme Challenge, IFC, M-1 and Pride Fighing Championship.
