With UFC 145 around the bend and an ongoing debate surrounding failed drug tests, the timing could not have been much better for the UFC to reveal eight fighters had been tested who competed in February at UFC 144 and all passed with flying colors. Among the individuals screened were headliners Benson Henderson and Frankie Edgar. The other six fighters were not revealed.

UFC 144 took place in Japan meaning the UFC handled the testing internally based on the lack of regulatory board in the region. Fighters were tested for drugs of abuse (i.e. street drugs) as well as performance enhancing substances such as steroids.

MMAJunkie was first to report the procedure had been done as well as the results.

Interestingly enough, prior to today’s news UFC 144 dealt with a bit of drug-related controversy after Quinton “Rampage” Jackson revealed he’d injected testosterone during the build towards his bout with Ryan Bader as a means of healing faster from a knee injury.

Results from UFC on Fuel 2 are also expected to be revealed in the immediate future. The UFC also conducted the tests for last weekend’s event due to it being held in Sweden.

MMATraining Take: Sad when fighters testing clean is news, eh? Hopefully 2012 will be the year that really kicks Zuffa into gear as far as cleaning up the sport even if it isn’t necessarily their job to do so.
