The man best known for beating up Bobby Lashley and rocking some righteous mutton-chop sideburns now has an official opponent for his rumored UFC debut, not to mention a date, card, and location for the forthcoming fracas.

According to the UFC, former Strikeforce heavyweight Chad Griggs will face unbeaten Hawaiian Travis Browne on March 24 at UFC 145. The event is scheduled to take place in Montreal and will also feature Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills. More bouts will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Griggs was 3-0 in Strikeforce with wins over Lashley, Gian Villante, and most recently Valentijn Overeem. He holds an overall record of 11-1 with nine TKOs and two submissions.

Comparably, Browne is 12-0-1 with a draw against Cheick Kongo from a year ago and success against the likes of Abe Wagner, Rob Broughton, James McSweeney, and Stefan Struve. Like “The Gravedigger,” the 29-year old Browne has a talent for taking opponents out and has done so in ten of twelve wins.

MMATraining Take: Excellent matchmaking by the UFC. Griggs and Browne are clearly at similar points in their career, each having a solid W/L record including wins over notable opponents and a slew of stoppages. Their fight should be competitive and establish one as being ready for higher profile pairings.
