Fans of sensational striker Cung Le will no doubt be glad to hear the polished pugilist has plans to be featured on the small screen in 2012. However, rather than it relate to any film projects Le is currently working on, his appearance on the tube will be in the role of a Mixed Martial Artist as the 39-year old has said he’s not calling it a career just yet.

Le Tweeted the positive news this week, saying it is his intent to take to the Octagon this year.

A former Strikeforce middleweight champ, Le made his UFC debut in November, earning Fight of the Night honors for his work in the infamous eight-sided cage against fellow fan-favorite Wanderlei Silva at UFC 139. Prior to the loss he had won seven of his eight MMA fights with all of the victories coming as the result of a strike-based stoppage.

No word was offered in terms of opponents Le was interested in or a specific date he might return.

MMATraining Take: I’m glad to hear Le isn’t looking to retire. He showed he can still compete against Silva despite an extraordinarily long layoff and his age, plus he’s one of the most exciting fighters out there. Hopefully the UFC takes advantage of his style (and limited number of remaining bouts), pairing him against a striker rather than someone who will shoot non-stop takedowns.
