Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is ready to get back to business after an injury forced him out of Bellator 54 where he was scheduled to defend his belt against Season 4 tournament-winner Michael Chandler.
According to an official press release from Bellator, Alvarez and Chandler will now face off on November 19 as part of a stacked Bellator 58 card already featuring a 195-pound catchweight bout between middleweight title-holder Hector Lombard and UFC/Strikeforce veteran Trevor Prangley. Jessica Aguilar and Marlon Sandro will also see action at the event.
Alvarez is 6-0 under the Bellator banner and holds an overall record of 22-2 including a number of impressive wins including those over Tatsuya Kawajiri, Pat Curran, and Roger Huerta. Equally remarkable, the 26-year old Alvarez has finished nineteen of the twenty-two opponents he’s beaten.
A former All-American wrestler out of Missouri, Chandler is 8-0 and earned the opportunity to take home Alvarez’s championship by racking up a trio of triumphs in last season’s lightweight tournament over Marcin Held, Lloyd Woodard, and Patricky “Pitbull” Freire.
Fans can catch Bellator 58 live on MTV2/EPIX or by attending the actual event which is taking place in Hollywood, Florida.

MMATraining Take: I’m glad Alvarez’s injury wasn’t serious enough to keep him from competing again in 2011 since he’s only fought once thus far. I’m not sure Chandler will be able to pull off the upset but his takedowns and top-control should definitely keep things interesting. Regardless of outcome, both fighters should be around for years to come while steadily improving given that they’re only in their mid-twenties and have already exhibited a tremendous amount of talent without yet being in their primes.
