After receiving his walking papers from the UFC based on an incident involving an inability to make weight, a problem throughout his career, 28-year old Anthony Johnson now has a new home in the form of Titan FC. Based out of Kansas City, Titan FC has established itself as a force in the region including a deal to televised events through HDNet.

Though Johnson does not have an opponent lined up for his promotional debut “Rumble” did say he would be fighting under the Titan FC banner as a middleweight on May 25.

Johnson confirmed he’d signed with the organization while serving as a guest on today’s episode of The MMA Hour.

Holding an overall record of 10-4, Johnson wowed fans during his time in the UFC with his power, wrestling, and shredded physique. However, the latter ultimately cost Johnson his job after failing in his attempt to cut a huge amount of weight prior to facing Vitor Belfort at UFC 142. Johnson failed to make the required mark and was promptly released after being choked out by Belfort in the opening round of action. Prior to the stumble he’d picked up back-to-back wins over Charlie Brenneman and Dan Hardy.

MMATraining Take: Titan FC is a perfectly suitable landing ground for Johnson. They’ll be able to draw interest based on his name while he’ll have a chance to get exposure on TV along with proving he can make weight on a consistent basis. He’ll also face less-than-incredible opposition in the organization giving him a chance to string together a couple of victories as well.
