It looks like UFC 155-pound champion Frankie Edgar should pay close attention to Saturday night’s Clay Guida-Ben Henderson fight, as the winner will likely meet “The Answer” February in Japan for the lightweight title.

Multiple reports citing sources close to the situation have confirmed that the Guida-Henderson victor will become the new #1 contender to Edgar and face the champion February 26 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The bout will likely be the main event of the card.

Edgar last defended his title with a victory over Gray Maynard via strikes at UFC 136 in October. The win avenged Edgar’s lone career loss and solidified his standing as the best 155er in MMA today.

Guida-Henderson will serve as the co-main event to Saturday’s UFC on FOX 1: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos card. The bout can only be seen on Facebook or FOXSports’ website, as the hour-long FOX show will only feature Cain Velasquez defending his heavyweight gold against Junior dos Santos.

MMATraining Take: Edgar would be favored over either Guida or Henderson, but I think Henderson’s athletic ability could cause Edgar more problems than Guida’s never-ending-energy. Edgar can also go five rounds with anybody, so he won’t be as tested against Guida as he would be vs. Henderson.
