If you’re a fan of MMA and you’ve seen the last few UFC events, you’ve most likely taken notice of a young Canadian kid by the name of Rory MacDonald.  Nicknamed “The Waterboy” he is anything but that.  MacDonald, at only 22 years of age, is 12-1 overall and a rising star in the UFC.  During MacDonald’s recent fight at UFC 133, Joe Rogan said he thinks MacDonald can be better than Georges St Pierre..

MacDonald of course recently defeated veteran fighter Mike Pyle, and he did so in entertaining fashion.  The exciting youngster hurt Pyle badly in the first round, appeared to have smelled blood, and went to work.  MacDonald released a fury of strikes that proved to be far too much for the veteran Pyle and the fight had to be stopped.  MacDonald left the fight unscathed and appeared to have won the fight with ease.  He would later say he wished the fight had went on longer so that he could showcase his skills.

If a win over a true veteran of the sport like Pyle doesn’t get your attention, lets take a look back at his previous fight with Nate Diaz.  Now we all know Diaz is a force to be reckoned with and can really do some damage if given an opening.  However, MacDonald simply destroyed Diaz.  He out struck Diaz and threw him around the octagon like a rag doll, bringing excitement to the UFC fans in attendance at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.  MacDonald to no surprise won the fight by unanimous decision.

In a post fight interview with MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani after UFC 133, MacDonald said, “I want to be the best there ever was, the best there ever will be.”  Only time will tell if the young Canadian who trains with the aforementioned welterweight champi, GSP, will live up to his dream.  He has demonstrated in his last two victories that he is as tough as they come and not to be taken lightly.  At this point it’s hard to argue MacDonald isn’t making a name for himself in the UFC’s welterweight Division and he is definitely a young fighter to keep your eye on.
